a girl boss reads books

I have complied a list of the 7 must read personal development books of all time with the best self help books that will make you rethink why you should read personal development books if you want to change your life.

Whether you’re battling with self-image, anxiety, low self-esteem, depression, or just want to understand yourself better and learn how this world works, and the best solution I can give you are books. Self care books.

I know you might not want to actually read a book, but everything goes back to where it all started, these things are not new knowledge and unless you get to the root of a matter, you might lose direction

self care books

When I started my personal development journey some months back, I promised myself to read a ton of book on different aspects of my life so as to improve and let go of the past. This is what 1/8 of my library looks like right now (yes, i did the math).

Here are 7 of my favorites though, you have to start somewhere, and by the way these books are on amazon so you can get them either as hard copy or the kindle versions, these links will take you straight to them. I hope you enjoy them.

1.    Love yourself, Heal your life workbook by Louise Hay

self help book

This is a 200+ workbook where you fill in the information regarding yourself. It helps you dig deeper and confront the dark parts of you. It helps you track how you think of the world and the things you’ve gone through to the main reasons that cause them.

You analyze how the people around you respond to things, and how those responses shaped your life. After filling everything, you are able to pick the right things and let go of the bad things in your life. You heal yourself, forgive yourself, and most of all, learn to love yourself.

2.    A new model by Ashley Graham

This book is one of my favorites because it talks about self-image from a model, a plus-size model. Through her experiences, you learn that nobody size is perfect and they all have their downfalls. It teaches true beauty, passion, fearlessness and confidence and self-love.

3.    The smart girls guide to self-care By Shahida Arabi

self care

This book is really unique because it deals with real problems like depression, self-image, self-harm, abuse, and other threatening situations. All situations are explained in detail and you are being guided through.

In this book, you will read people success stories, and yours should be there too. You will emerge a new soul after this book. After all, if you understand your problem, you’re just one step away from solving it.

4.    Beautifully imperfect by Craig Beck

beautifully imperfect

This book is short, but it’s the best kind of short, it treats everything directly and simply. It teaches you about your imperfections and how to love yourself, it helps you build a relationship with yourself, understand your flaws and love them.

It explains all factors causing the low self-esteem and body image issue in the society like the internet and what not. If you have issues with self-confidence, self-esteem or have been bullied for your size, looks or disability, this is the book to read. It’s beautiful.

5.    Being happy by Andrew Mathews

If you want to be happy in this life, you have to read this book. It covers a lot of stuff but it stresses the fact that you have to want to be happy and that you can’t base your happiness on a condition or achievement. Your happiness starts with your subconscious, you have to own it and choose it. This book helps you understand how success works, chasing your dreams, relationships and more. Other books by this author are how life works and follow your passion, they are shorter than how to be happy, besides it covers all of them. If you enjoy picture books, he does the illustrations himself and it’s really catchy and fun to read.

6.    The secret by Rhonda Byrne

The secret is the law of attraction, when you want something, you think about it positively, and it happens that’s all.

The law of attraction, in love, money, happiness, relationships, that’s pretty much it. People’s testimony and proof that it’s all in your head.

7.    How to make people like you in 90 seconds or less by Nicholas Boothman

This book is not about dressing nice or talking nicely to make people like you. It’s about liking yourself, liking the people and understanding people. It teaches small talk, how to listen and the right body language and also boosting your confidence when talking to people.

These are 7 of the self care books I have read. I have read a lot more and wish to read more also. These books have helped my personal development & self care really well and what I’ve written doesn’t do them justice.

You can experiment with books, also find a writer that inspires you and read his/her book. Contact the writer if you have any questions or need further help. My inbox is always open if you want to talk.

Don’t just read the books, you have to implement what they teach you.

If you don’t like books, there are a lot of audiobooks and podcasts which will give you the same results.
