Every thing you will do for your skin will depend on whether you have dry, oily, sensitive, normal or combination skin. and today, you will find out which of it applies to you.
This question gets a lot of people confused, even myself. Like, isn’t it the same skin on all of us? Yeah but there are characteristics that describe the condition of your skin like pore size, oil production, moisture retention, etc. these qualities are grouped and they form skin types.
Answering this question will solve most of your skincare concerns. It is a gateway to great products, good care which will lead to great skin.
why do I need to now my skin type?
You can be following a high-quality routine but not get the desired results. Often people blame their skin or the products. But even though not all product, even for your skin type will work for you-you need to concentrate on giving your skin the care it needs. You never see headache sufferers given stomach ache medicines right? As Einstein said, you cannot judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree. So don’t blame the products if you just head into a store and grab products from the shelf, even if it is from your favorite bloggers.
Their skin type is different from yours, but you could follow their directions, just adjust them to suit you
So before we figure out your skin type, what makes our skin different? There are certain factors that contribute to the genetic makeup of your skin which causes your skin to react differently to your environments. Your genes, the climate, environment, eating habits, food, etc. That’s why checking your skin type is really important. Your skin type can change so pay attention to it. you need to take note of the signs your skin gives you when you need to change your skincare routine
when you do find your skin type you should know how to take care of it and precautions to take.
The five different skin types
There are basically four types of skin types and one subset that can apply to all. Namely: dry, oily, combination, normal and sensitive skin. I said subset because you can have dry and sensitive or oily and sensitive skin at the same time. There are many ways to check your skin type but the easiest is by answering these 2 yes or no questions.
Method 1: how to find your skin type
1. Do my foreheadand nose get shiny after a few hours?
2. Are my cheeksdry and tight?
• Answering no toboth means you have normal skins
• Answering yes toboth means you have combination skin
• Answering yes tothe first and no to the second means you have oily skin
• Answering no tothe first and yes to the second means you have dry skin
3. Does my skin getred and sore after touching it, does it react to most products?
If yes, then you most likely have sensitive skin. I didn’t add it to the first two because you may have a skin type and then that skin type will be sensitive. But talk to your dermatologist first because there is a degree of sensitivity that is normal and one that warrants the use of sensitive skin products. If you don’t have sensitive skin and use their products, it will be too mild for your skin type and the product wouldn’t work. So I recommend to go to your dermatologist, they will run a skin test and give you products specifically for your skin.
When its not sensitive skin or your skin type you should know the skin care mistakes damaging your skin
Method 2: how to find your skin type
If the first method is too vague for you, there is anothermethod.
• wash your face, not just with water, you have to use a facial soap.
• Pat dry and letit sit bare for an hour.
• Don’t touch yourface, by the way, Busy your hand.
• After an hourgets blotting paper or even a thin sheet of tissue. If you’re using a tissueopen it to make it lighter and put it in your t-zone and cheeks. Place it for afew minutes. Let’s say 5 and remove.
If there is oilon all areas of the blotting paper, then you have oily skin
If its dry in allareas of your skin, and when you feel our skin its tight and dry, then you havedry skin
If you have oilon your T-zone and dry on your jawline and cheeks, then you must havecombination skin. Combination skin is very tricky to try and make sure
If it’s not toodry and not too oily, and you feel just great when you have normal skin
And if you rub an area of your skin with two fingers and its red, swollen or you feel discomfort then you probably have sensitive skin.
The skin type quiz to find your skin type.
AFTER this tests though, I recommend you go through your skincare products and anything that is not for your skin types, throw it out or give it away. I know, you’re throwing away money or you really liked those products, but they have to go. Don’t worry if it’s everything. It’s a sacrifice that will eventually pay off unless you don’t want great skin.
Now get a piece of paper, write down your budget and get only the essential skincare products every skin type must have according to your skin type and stick to them. You can later get more products.
